Monday evening, a whole week since we left for camp

Well first day back at school after the weekend and I am still exhausted. Felt fine over the weekend it self but last night was the first time I slept properly. True it was only for about five and a half hours, but no waking up wondering if there were small people out of their beds at 2am in the morning. Paid the price today however if there has ever been a time when I really wanted to go for a nanna-nap, it was about 3pm this arvo. Thank goodness for strong coffee and fresh air, felt a little like a puppy (true a very large puppy) with the window open as I was driving home on Tonkin Highway.

Enough on that I am pleased to say that I have organised the photos (still a few more to go, but the majority done) so that they can be viewed on line. As you can see the slideshow is now working (if not you may need to upgrade a few of your drivers on the computer) and scrolling through a few pictures. By clicking on a slide show picture it will take you to Flickr (spelt correctly) which is an on-line photo album site. From there by clicking on the links on the right hand side of the screen you can start a full slide show of the pictures I loaded up this afternoon. There is also photos albums from last years Year 7 graduation and the staff production as well.

I am going to see if I can get a couple of little movies to work as well. They are only small clips taken with a stills camera rather than the video proper but alas that was Mr Browns area of expertise and he sadly had to leave a little early due to ill health. Get well soon Mr Brown ( I know he is keeping up to date by checking out the blog.

Well I hope you enjoy the pictures I loaded, hope to have the rest up tomorrow.

Saturday Evening after camp

Sorry this is the first chance I have had to sit down to do this. Had all the usual things to do at home, catch up with friends and family, get the laundry sorted and do the shopping this morning. I know last night I did not see much T.V. as I was well and truly asleep by 9:30pm.

All the same it was a great camp and I had a ball. Loved the opportunity to spend it with the children before they move on to high school next year. As I think I said before this year 7 is important to my self and Miss Clough as they were the pre-primary clas in the year we started. For a good number of them they were in kindy with Mrs Edmondson and Tiffany and for Mr Brown he first got to know them as year twos. So as you can guess we have a few years and quite a few memories stored up between us.

I will add some more photos to the blog tomorrow as soon as I have downloaded them from the camera and resized them for the web. Miss Clough has already done a good job of up-dating the the Thursday night I will add a little more and a few things from the Friday after she had gone and Miss Brown and Mr Leyland came to give a helping hand so we could pack and tie up loose ends with paperwork for the camp.

The last night of camp and the last morning.

Thursday was a busy day and a little tricky with the funny weather not being able to decide if it would rain or stay warm and sunny - there was a lot of putting on and taking off of jackets. Lots of fun was had by all including Mrs Delaney who came to spend the day with us.

We started the morning with a beach walk, paddle and dolphin spotting.

After morning tea it was time for round one of todays activities. My group started with the team building games. They worked well together in many ways, as the pictures show: they had to work hard as a team and communicate clearly with each other.

After a wonderful lunch our group went to experience the Glidder Possum - what a buzz. One person is harnessed to a rope on a pulley the rest of the group pull them up 'tug of war' style and leave them swinging in the tree tops. The kids really enjoyed the thrill of this mostly asking to go super super fast with lots of swing.

A quiet afternoon of chilling out, sports and free time mainly indoors due to the rain which unfortunately prevented a trip to the shops for the kids to spend their money. BUT they didn't miss out at all - lollies were shared around at the awards night so everyone was sugared up just before bedtime!!!!

THE BIG BOWLS OF LOLLIES.

Jordan's 'Hollow legs award. Reece and his cleanest person award.

Jessica C's award for her determination in abseiling, flying fox and the glidder.

Montell won a tortoise award but also needs recognition for his ability to eat apples.

Jessie won the sleeping beauty award for his
ability to fall asleep half way through dinner!!
Other awards included: Britlee's noisiest person; Nicholas was the buddy of the week; Rebecca gained the cooperation award, Shana the award for I can't do that since she couldn't eat cereal without sugar and Ben the drip of the week award for asking if someone was coming to make his bed - sorry no room service!!

Well Friday has arrived and everyone has packed their bags, cleaned their rooms (some with lots of prompting and directing from the teachers!!!) and with a tinge bitter sweet happyness and sadness feeling ready to go home.

Hello Camp People.

I just wanted to write a short blog on here to let you know that your pictures and blog from camp are amazing. I hope you are all having a great time and I am very disappointed that I can not rejoin you at camp.
Well all I can say is that I have very bad chest infection that has caused me to be bed ridden up until this point. I am feeling a little better today and believe that after almost three day that I might be able to eat something other than stewed apple's(yuck baby food).
Seeing those flour fights and the pictures of the new girls in the school really helped to cheer me up.
I hope the weather stays ok for you in the last day and a half. Take care of yourselves and each other.
Mr Brown

Message from Mr Craig

Hi Campers

Thanks for letting me join in your activities yesterday. It was great to see you having fun and getting on well with each other and your teachers - most of the time anyway. Everyone I spoke to was enjoying the activities and I wish I had time to join in. I went down the vertical side of the abseiling tower a few years ago (I have the pictures to prove it) so I know what a buzz it is. I've also been on the flying fox - Yahoooooooo!!

The talent search last night was lots of fun but I'm not too sure about the talent bit. Well done to the prize winners and to everyone else for having a go and making it a fun night.

Hope the rain hasn't been too much of a problem today but I suppose that is nature. Keep enjoying your camp and remember to eat well and sleep well. See you all on Friday.

Day 3 of Camp

Up at the crack of dawn, no really I was, 5.15am woke up and do you think I could get back to sleep. I know it was early because there was no children around. By the time I had managed to go and get a coffee I was feeling a little more with it. The early start gave me a chance to get a few pics into the previous blog.

Today was a quiet day in that we only had one round of activities planned, with a beach walk in the afternoon. The problem is the weather did not oblige and we had some light rain. Luckily for us we had nearly finished the the days activity before it got going but it did put a stop to the beach walk. We did have something in the wings however and that proved a hit with the kids in more ways than one. It is amazing the power that is contained in a small cling-wrapped packet of S/R flour. However before we go to far into that lets have a look at my groups' adventure on the 'Glider Possum'.

A fairly simple concept tie a kid to a rope that runs through a pulley system attached to a tree. Add a whole bunch of kids to pull on a rope and there you have it a small child hanging from a tree branch whooping and screaming like a Bay City Roller fan. Simple, safe and great fun for the children, best yet all run by highly trained outdoor ed specilists.

The Flour War

Well it had to happen, what with tensions rising in camp it was only a matter of time before things escalated into open war. As you will see in the end right won out over wrong and Miss Clough and my self were clearly the winners.

Not long after that Miss Brown and Mr Craig arrived so that they could spend a little time with us. The children were happy to see both. As an adult it is easy to forget that a couple of days can seem like along time to a young person. So on a couple of occasions I was looking around for the second coming, when Miss Brown came into the room. Mr Craig was able to stay for dinner and for our camp talent show.

more about that tomorrowfallingasleep here.

news from KAYLA 10/9/08 :]

News from Jessica C

Yesterday on Tuesday I had lots of fun all day. I went abseiling first of all with my group and it was really scary but it was fun. You had to get right on your side and walk down. After I went rafting which was also fun. A jelly fish came under our raft and our feet went straight up. Everybody started screaming which I thought was really funny. My favourite thing we did today was glider possum, it was awesome!!!

News from Jessica M, Jodie, Danielle and Demi.

So far the best bit of camp is the activities. So far we have done abseiling, rafting and the flying fox.

We are enjoying the meals and the desserts. Last night for dessert we had chocolate brownies with peanuts.

Today we had a huge war. Our grenades were self raising flour. Miss Clough and Mr Carroll participated and nearly every student participated. We got so covered in flour
We also got it through our hair and eyes.

Miss Clough, Mr Carroll and Mrs Edmondson have been really great. They have been helping us to do all the activities and everything.

Last night we had a quiz night and it was very fun. There were lots of prizes and lollies. Mr Carroll was the host and Mrs Edmondson, Miss Clough and Mrs Delaney were the judges. In the end the Quiz Masters won. Bob was so close only loosing by 1 and a half points.

Bonny, Natalie and Crystal

Ms Brown came up to visit for the afternoon and Mr Craig popped in for the afternoon and evening to hang out with the kids and watch the talent show .
Just after they arrived three new "girls" turned up to camp also-
Crystal Bonny Natalie.

They also stayed until the talent show and made a huge catwalk entrance.

Day Two

This morning everyone was up just a little later than yesterday, feeling a little more worn out after the long day yesterday.

It was with sadness that we had to farewell a few of the group yesterday - unfortunately a student tripped over and broke a bone is his arm - after having it plastered at the hospital he proudly come back to camp to show everyone and then went home to rest up.
Late last night, after battling a flu all day Mr Brown had to go home in order to visit a Doctor and hopefully to get better so he could come back to spend a little more time on camp.
On a brighter side the campers were excited to have a visit from Mrs Delaney last night.

After breakfast this morning the camp split up into it's three groups again - Group 1 went to the Archery zone, Group 2 were doing team building activities and Group 3 went on the Possum Glider. We are now ready to start lunch so will post some photos later. :)

It has been a long day

OK I am bushed, not the best nights sleep I have ever had and then up for 5:30am. I need a shower first thing in the morning followed by coffee, lots of very strong coffee. Best I got today was the shower. But behind every bleary eyed start to the day is a silver lining. The sunrise over the city was magnificent.

Miss Clough is also a coffee person first thing in the morning, coffee and a great view, ten minutes before we wake the children.

It always amazes me how children can be whinging about being kicked out of bed one minute and running around like crazed lunatics the next. Any way got most of the bodies sorted out with only the minor grumble from some quarters (well I still had not had my coffee). Once breakfast had been dealt with and we had said good morning to Mr Craig who had popped in on his way to school.

The camp day started with a stroll along the beach. Fairly sure that the term you can have a paddle does not mean go in right up to your waist. A mistake on our part obviously as we should have said do not go into the water up to your waist. Never mind a very nice stroll, made especially memorable as I discovered a very nice coffee house on the beach front, which served a very passable coffee.

We had two activity sessions planned for the day and it was right into it for my group with abseiling.

Pleased to say that most had a go and we had some successes a few tears and maybe two new converts to a new hobby, they each had three goes in a row.

The afternoon session was rafting which the children informed was the best so far as far as they were concerned.

The day ended with quiz, with table No'1the mighty 'Quiz Masters' beating table N0'2 'Bob' by the slimmest of margins to be the Point Walter 2008 Quiz champions.
